Most roof leaks are not where the water shows up. Water runs along the underside of the decking and down a rafter before it reaches the ceiling, so the stain in your bedroom is often several feet from the hole. Finding the real source is the entire job.
What usually fails first
Flashing and penetrations. Pipe boots crack, step flashing pulls loose, and chimney counterflashing separates. This is the single most common source of a leak on a roof that otherwise looks fine.
Wind damage along edges. Straight line wind lifts shingles at the rakes, eaves, and ridge, where the adhesive strip has the least help. Once one course lifts, the next storm gets underneath it.
Hail bruising. Hail knocks the granules off and bruises the mat underneath. The roof can look intact from the ground and still be compromised, which is why a post-storm inspection matters even when nothing is obviously wrong. See storm damage.
Valleys. Where two slopes meet, water volume concentrates. Debris collects, and a valley that was installed poorly will find a way to leak eventually.
Repair or replace
We will tell you straight. If the roof has service life left and the damage is contained, a repair is the better outcome for you. If the roof is at the end of its life or the damage is spread across multiple slopes, patching it is throwing money at a problem that is coming back.
A repair that buys you five good years is a real answer. So is "your roof is fine, here is what to watch for."
If you have an active leak
Get something under it to catch the water, move what you can out of the way, and call. We can often get out the same week, and sooner after a storm.
Common questions
How fast can you get out to look at a leak?+
Usually the same week, and often the same day after a storm. Call or text 405-684-0450 and Jack will get you scheduled directly.
Can you match my existing shingles?+
Often, though an exact match on an older roof is not always possible because product lines change and existing shingles have weathered. We will tell you upfront what the match will look like so it is not a surprise.
Is a repair worth it on an old roof?+
Sometimes. If the roof has several good years left and the damage is contained to one area, a repair is money well spent. If it is at the end of its service life, a repair buys you months and you pay twice. We will tell you which situation you are in.
Do you charge for the inspection?+
No. Inspections and written quotes are free, with no obligation.
